Iโ€™ve been completely intrigued with this topic for quite a while now. I think December 2019 is when it began~I was starting to dive in deep. Then Christmas 2020 and 2021 were no different~the concept of ๐—œ๐—บ๐—บ๐—ฎ๐—ป๐˜‚๐—ฒ๐—น-๐—š๐—ผ๐—ฑ ๐™ฌ๐™ž๐™ฉ๐™ ๐˜‚๐˜€, was beginning to solidify. I was finally beginning to understand what that really means for us. Now here we are, 2022, and the message has never been more clear.๐ŸŒŸ

So over these past few years, God has been showing me this theme: โ€œ๐—œ๐—บ๐—บ๐—ฎ๐—ป๐˜‚๐—ฒ๐—น, God ๐™ฌ๐™ž๐™ฉ๐™ us.โ€ And, this particular verse~โ€œGod is ๐•๐•š๐•˜๐•™๐•ฅ, ๐—‰๐—Ž๐—‹๐–พ ๐—…๐—‚๐—€๐—๐—; there is not a ๐’•๐’“๐’‚๐’„๐’† of ๐—ฑ๐—ฎ๐—ฟ๐—ธ๐—ป๐—ฒ๐˜€๐˜€ in him.โ€ (1 John 1:5 The Message.)

What does that mean to you? The fact that God has not even a ๐—ง๐—ฅ๐—”๐—–๐—˜ of ๐—ฑ๐—ฎ๐—ฟ๐—ธ๐—ป๐—ฒ๐˜€๐˜€ in him at all? It makes me think about a lot of different attributes we ascribe to God that donโ€™t belong to him. ๐Ÿฅบ

I was in the kitchen one day and a song came on. I paused and thought to myself~โ€™there it is again.โ€™ It was talking about that very thing~In God there is ๐—ป๐—ผ ๐—ฑ๐—ฎ๐—ฟ๐—ธ๐—ป๐—ฒ๐˜€๐˜€. ๐—ก๐—ข darkness.

โ€œ๐—œ๐—บ๐—บ๐—ฎ๐—ป๐˜‚๐—ฒ๐—น, God with us,” is a very familiar phrase of course, especially at Christmas. We quote it and read it repeatedly throughout the season, but I wonder if we even begin to ๐—ด๐—ฟ๐—ฎ๐˜€๐—ฝ the depth of its meaning. My humble opinion is~no, we donโ€™t even know what weโ€™re really saying. If we did, there would be more evidence of us living our lives in this ๐—ง๐—ฟ๐˜‚๐˜๐—ต.

After I heard the song that day, something else popped up about the very same topic. And then another person talking about the same theme, and then another song. Then my friend sent me a text about the same subject. And I continued to notice it ๐’†๐’—๐’†๐’“๐’š๐’˜๐’‰๐’†๐’“๐’†, in various forms, throughout the month. Iโ€™m kinda ๐—ผ๐—ฏ๐˜€๐—ฒ๐˜€๐˜€๐—ฒ๐—ฑ with it because of what it ๐˜๐—ฟ๐˜‚๐—น๐˜† means for us.

Our Advent Calendar always sparks a lot of interesting conversations this season. ๐ŸŽ„๐ŸŒŸ

Each night they took turns opening one of the little doors, and carefully took out the ornament. Then they pass it around to each other, and everyone looks at it and tries to guess what the story is about. Then whoeverโ€™s turn it is, they hang it delicately on the tree. We read the story, say the scripted prayer, and talk about it.โ™ฅ๏ธ

And the other night…guess what? Yep-same theme in the form of a question by Samuel. Heโ€™s my deep thinker. ๐Ÿ’ญ

Some may think that because of our lack of and/or sporadic church attendance since our exodus from previous church, that our kids arenโ€™t getting much in the way of โ€˜teachingโ€™ about God, etc. Completely the opposite. Maybe not always in the form of sitting at a table in a class with an open Bible~but~๐—๐—ฒ๐˜€๐˜‚๐˜€ is always a part of our conversations. Even some well-meaning women from previous church have sent cards and/or verse cards in the mail, underlining certain ๐˜๐—ต๐—ฒ๐—บ๐—ฒ๐˜€ Iโ€™m assuming they want me to โ€˜get.โ€™ I do get it. And I talk about Jesus/God all the time with my kids. I always have, nothing has changed.โ™ฅ๏ธ

Whatโ€™s interesting is that I donโ€™t even agree with some of the way the Christmas story is presented in this little advent book, only because my perspective is ๐’†๐’—๐’†๐’“-๐’„๐’‰๐’‚๐’๐’ˆ๐’Š๐’๐’ˆ based on what the Holy Spirit is showing me. Nor am I into scripted prayers too much. But, Iโ€™m mature enough to realize that everyone has a different perspective on God, and…itโ€™s ๐‘ถ๐‘ฒ๐‘จ๐’€. So, we read it anyway, because my kids will be exposed to a lot of different religious ideas throughout their life, and eventually theyโ€™ll have to figure things out and separate ๐’๐’Š๐’†๐’” from ๐’•๐’“๐’–๐’•๐’‰ on their own as God leads them in a way theyโ€™ll understand it.โ™ฅ๏ธ

Samuelโ€™s question:

โ€œHow did God become a baby when he lives in Heaven? He lives in the sky.โ€

Me: โ€œGod doesnโ€™t ๐—ท๐˜‚๐˜€๐˜ live in the sky Samuel, he lives everywhere. And Heaven may not be ๐™Ÿ๐™ช๐™จ๐™ฉ โ€œup in the skyโ€ like we think.โ€

Samuel~โ€So who took over Heaven when God came down as a baby, the Holy Spirit?โ€๐Ÿ˜†

Me: โ€œWell…sure. Maybe. But He kinda brought Heaven ๐’˜๐’Š๐’•๐’‰ him.โ€๐Ÿ’›

He seemed satisfied with my answers for now.โ™ฅ๏ธ

The word โ€˜Emmanuelโ€™ means โ€œGod is with us.โ€ Not Jesus with us, ๐™‚๐™ค๐™™ ๐™’๐™ž๐™ฉ๐™ ๐™๐™จ. That means God was the baby lying in the manger. Jesus yes, but God.

Up to this point in history, people didnโ€™t understand who God was, they were assigning all sorts of characteristics to him that were not accurate. We say โ€œGod ๐’Š๐’” Loveโ€, yes~but we also indirectly say that heโ€™s mean, angry, vengeful, retributive, condemning, and judgemental…? Thatโ€™s rather ๐’…๐’Š๐’‡๐’‡๐’Š๐’„๐’–๐’๐’• to understand.๐Ÿฅบ

You canโ€™t ๐˜ฝ๐™€ the actual definition of Love and also ๐˜ฝ๐™€ those other things. So he had to come ๐™ก๐™ž๐™ซ๐™š ๐™ฌ๐™ž๐™ฉ๐™ ๐™ช๐™จ, do life ๐™’๐™„๐™๐™ƒ ๐™ช๐™จ, so we could have a better picture of who God really is. ๐‰๐ž๐ฌ๐ฎ๐ฌ.

If God hadnโ€™t been so ๐—บ๐—ถ๐˜€๐˜‚๐—ป๐—ฑ๐—ฒ๐—ฟ๐˜€๐˜๐—ผ๐—ผ๐—ฑ in the Old Testament, He wouldnโ€™t have had to come as a baby and live with us, showing us who He was in human form~๐—๐—ฒ๐˜€๐˜‚๐˜€.

I know I canโ€™t convince anyone of the ๐™ช๐™ง๐™œ๐™š๐™ฃ๐™˜๐™ฎ to really understand this, and that when we do, it has the potential to change everything. For years and years I recited โ€œEmmanuel, God with us,โ€ but didnโ€™t have the slightest clue what it really meant.๐Ÿ˜•

Now Iโ€™m ๐™—๐™š๐™œ๐™ž๐™ฃ๐™ฃ๐™ž๐™ฃ๐™œ to understand it.โ™ฅ๏ธ๐—˜๐˜ƒ๐—ฒ๐—ฟ๐˜† question, thought, bewilderment, uncertainty, confusion, etc, that we have about God..can be clarified by simply studying the person of ๐™…๐™š๐™จ๐™ช๐™จ and how he Iived his life on Earth. ๐Ÿ’š Letโ€™s be careful to attribute ๐—ฎ๐—ป๐˜† characteristic to God that has even the slightest resemblance of ๐’…๐’‚๐’“๐’Œ๐’๐’†๐’”๐’”.

Some things to think about~๐Ÿ’ญ

โ–ช๏ธJesus repeatedly got frustrated with the religious people.

โ–ซ๏ธThat means God did too.

โ–ช๏ธJesus valued women, and considered them ๐Ÿ’ฏ equal to men.

โ–ซ๏ธThat means God did too.

โ–ช๏ธJesus exhibited qualities like humility, kindness, compassion, meekness, peace, patience, gentleness, and self-control.

โ–ซ๏ธThatโ€™s means God did too.

โ–ช๏ธJesus was never angry, vengeful, retributive, wrathful, condemning or judgmental.

โ–ซ๏ธThat means…God isnโ€™t those things either.

If we ever wonder what God is like…the best way we can get a solid answer is simply by looking at the life of Jesus. Why?

โ€œHe [Jesus] is the ๐—ถ๐—บ๐—ฎ๐—ด๐—ฒ ๐—ผ๐—ณ ๐˜๐—ต๐—ฒ ๐—ถ๐—ป๐˜ƒ๐—ถ๐˜€๐—ถ๐—ฏ๐—น๐—ฒ ๐—š๐—ผ๐—ฑ.”

Colossians 1:15

And I Iove this straight from scripture~๐Ÿ‘‡๐Ÿผ

“I tell you the truth, the Son can do nothing by himself; he can do only what he sees his Father doing, because whatever the Father does the Son also does.โ€

[John 5]

Again, crystal clear.๐Ÿค So if we see Jesus doing or saying something, we can know ๐Ÿ’ฏit came from God, because Jesus said himself that he only does ๐’˜๐’‰๐’‚๐’• ๐’‰๐’Š๐’” ๐’‡๐’‚๐’•๐’‰๐’†๐’“ ๐’…๐’๐’†๐’”.

One more:๐Ÿ‘‡๐Ÿผ

โ€œI and the Father are ๐—ข๐—ก๐—˜.” [John 10:30]

A post I saw and ๐—น๐—ผ๐˜ƒ๐—ฒ๐—ฑ๐Ÿ‘‡๐Ÿผ

God is ๐—Ÿ๐—ผ๐˜ƒ๐—ฒ, and that is the very essence of his being. Heโ€™s not ๐—Ÿ๐—ผ๐˜ƒ๐—ฒ AND….heโ€™s ๐—ท๐˜‚๐˜€๐˜ ๐—น๐—ผ๐˜ƒ๐—ฒ.

The Jesus of the New Testament was nothing like the God of the Old Testament. Yet, scripture tells us that Jesus was โ€œGod ๐˜„๐—ถ๐˜๐—ต us.โ€ Jesus was ๐—š๐—ผ๐—ฑ ๐—œ๐—ก the flesh. And he was never anything like the OT describes God. The NT is how I choose to view God, like Jesus, because Jesus ๐˜„๐—ฎ๐˜€ God in the flesh.โ™ฅ๏ธ

God was portrayed a certain way in the OT, but then Jesus comes to reveal who He really is. So while you had people attributing evil and death and destruction to God in the OT, we have to remember they had a veil over them. Jesus said no man has seen the Father but Him. He only did what He saw the Father do, and said what He said. So if something is said to be God in the OT, if it contradicts Jesus~you have to question it.

In 2023, consider changing your perspective of who God is. Thereโ€™s no wondering or questioning needed. All thatโ€™s needed to know who God is~what he does, how he acts, what he says, is all on full display for us in the life of Jesus. Once you are able to embrace this, youโ€™ll start to notice your light getting brighter and brighter.๐ŸŒŸโ˜€๏ธ โ˜บ๏ธ
